I recently had a $99 companion fare ticket that was expiring in October, so my girlfriend and I decided to use it for a weekend trip down to Key West. While we usually stay at the Key West DoubleTree (man I love those cookies), I had a free night certificate from my Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card that was also expiring soon so we decided to redeem it at the Reach Waldorf Astoria Resort. Rooms at the Reach were running ~$380/night, so for our second night I redeemed 50,000 HHonors points.
We arrived at the Key West airport a little after 2 in the afternoon. I love Key West airport because there are no jet-bridges so you always load and deplane via a remote stand. Remote stand flights are among my favorite because you get some gorgeous views of the tarmac.
From the airport we grabbed a taxi to the Reach. Unfortunately Key West has a strict ban on Uber at the moment, so taxi was the only option as we had no need for a rental car. In true Key West fashion, we ended up sharing a taxi with two hilarious women from Chicago who were headed to another hotel on the island. It was a quick 5 minute taxi ride to the Reach at which point we were greeted by the hotel staff.

The Reach is a gorgeous property situated on Key West’s only private beach and only a block from the famous Duval Street and two blocks from the Southernmost Point. While Key West beaches tend to not be great, the Reach’s was relatively quiet and steps from a great pool. Even better, the staff brings around delicious free frozen sorbets while you are on the beach!
Waldorf Astoria properties are unique in the Hilton portfolio in that each guest gets assigned a personal concierge of sorts to help with your stay in any way they can. Since I am a Hilton HHonors Gold thanks to my American Express Hilton HHonors Surpass card which comes with complimentary HHonors Gold status just for being a cardholder, I requested a room upgrade to an ocean view if available. My status with the chain was acknowledged at check-in by Eric, who was exceptional. Not only did Eric upgrade our room to an ocean view room, but he upgraded us to an Ocean View King Studio Suite with a killer view!
While checking in we chatted with Eric about some of the events going on that evening in Key West and what some of his personal favorite hidden gems were on the island. At that point one of the managers came up and offered us a free bottle of champagne so we could start our stay off right. We decided to enjoy the champagne on our balcony with the warm island breeze. It was personal touches like this throughout our stay that made this one of the truly exceptional Hilton properties for me.
Our room was located on the 4th floor and was extremely spacious with a great layout and island inspired design.
The king sized bed was extremely comfortable, though I do wish the room had been laid out so you could see the ocean from the bed. Regardless, the room was exceptional and I really had no complaints.
The bathroom was spacious and had a very nice walk-in shower.
The bathroom contained Salvatore Ferragamo (I had no idea they offered products other than clothes and shoes!) bath products which were a nice touch.
We ended up spending most of our time out and about in Key West, but decided we wanted to hit up the beach on Saturday afternoon. The beach was mostly deserted, which was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Key West. The staff at the Reach provides you with beach lounge chairs, umbrellas, fresh towels and, best of all, free frozen sorbets! You really cannot beat this view for relaxation!

On our way down to the beach, we rode the elevator with one of the Reach staff who had a bottle of champagne and some chocolates. My girlfriend joked with him that he could just drop that off at our room and he laughed. To our surprise, when we got back to the room, we had a box of Lindt chocolates and another bottle of champagne waiting for us!
It was an exceptionally nice surprise and one of those small touches that the Reach offers its guests.
After three days and two nights in Key West, it was time for us to head back to the Key West airport and catch our flight back to Orlando.
With a superb location, excellent rooms and one of the best staffs I have encountered at Hilton properties, the Reach Waldorf Astoria Resort is easily one of the best Hilton hotels I have stayed at throughout the world. If you are planning a trip down to Key West, I would highly recommend looking into this hotel as its location and amenities are hard to beat.
