I do not think many people are aware that they can change the frequent flyer number/frequent flyer program that is listed on an award ticket booked with British Airways Avios. Luckily there is a simple and easy way to change your frequent flyer number on the ticket from your British Airways number to any other OneWorld carrier.
So why would you want to do this you ask? Simple! If you lack status on British Airways, but have status on another OneWorld carrier such as American Airlines and want to utilize the benefits, you can’t without changing your frequent flyer number on the ticket.
So let’s say you are a Platinum (OneWorld Sapphire) with American and you booked a flight on Cathay Pacific using Avios. You want to utilize some of the benefits of your OneWorld Sapphire status like business class check-in and a free checked bag, but you have no status with British Airways. There is a very easy way to change your frequent flyer number on your award ticket over to your AAdvantage number. Here’s how.
First, obtain your booking reference number from your British Airways booking. You will receive this in an e-mail from British Airways after you have made your award booking and it should be a combination of six numbers and letters (for example: 2ND78K).
After you have your booking reference code, head over to the Royal Jordanian website.
From the main page select the “Manage Booking” tab and enter your British Airways booking reference number and your last name in the appropriate boxes.
That will take you to the trip reservation page. From there you want to look for the “Update my contact” button near the top of the page.
That will lead you to the page that will allow you to change your frequent flyer number.
Simply select your OneWorld airline from the dropdown menu, then insert your frequent flyer number and click save. Voila! You have just successfully updated your frequent flyer number on your British Airways award ticket!
If you want to double check it to make sure everything saved correctly, you can head over to the Qantas Airlines website.
From the main page, select the “Manage Your Booking” tab and enter your British Airways booking reference number and your last name in the appropriate boxes.
That will bring you to the Manage Your Booking main page.
Scroll down the page and look for the “Passengers” section. In the “Passenger details” section your new frequent flyer number should be reflected in the booking.
And that’s all! You have now successfully changed and verified your frequent flyer number on your Avios award ticket and will enjoy all of the perks of your OneWorld status on the flight!
This is a simple and easy ways to go about changing your frequent flyer number on an Avios award ticket so you can enjoy your OneWorld elite status perks!
